March 18 - Nelson/Lydic propose “University of Southern Delaware” on DP.net.
April 8 - “UD may build new Sussex campus.” - Cape Gazette
Coincidence? I think not.

Darn, I was kinda hoping we could call it the “South Henlopen Institute of Technology.”
Appears that this little site has readers in high places.
Let’s hope thy are not just trying to get voters attention, as well as the credit, for Mr. Nelson’s & Mr. Lydic’s proposal.
Itr will be most interesting to see how this idea floats with “the powers that be…”
That didn’t take long for someone to pick up that idea.
At least we wouldn’t be starting from scratch with UD doing it!
Thanks go to Randy and Walt for germinating the idea!!
One of the advantages to UD doing it is they are already accredited, thus saving time and money in the process. Obviously, their proposal cut Del Tech out of it, but one can hope it was simply a starting point for negotiation on bringing a destination Univesity to Sussex County. It would make sense to include Del Tech and the facilities they already have in place in such a venture.
Credit goes to Randy & Walt for initiating an innovative idea just when our economy needs the boost so badly.
It is obviously a viable plan or the current Educational Honchos would not have jumped on the bandwagon so quickly.
Let’s all try hard to keep this in the forefront of Delaware’s politicians vision for our near future.
The jobs it would create, as well as the kick in the pants to our economic growth, make this a very worthy endeaver.
Excellent job.
Weren’t the UD people working on this proposal for rather a few months? Isn’t it likely that this is a case of “great minds think alike?”
Or am I being too logical?
I was kind of joking, Mike.
Ah! Humor. I remember humor. Cool.
Whether it was great minds thinking alike or UD picking up on the idea from Walt & Randy………..it’s a great idea for Sussex County. Maybe it would have not been given much credence as just part of the UD report, but the report following this closely behind the opinion piece written by Walt & Randy and the feedback received from that article, gives the idea more weight and more creditibilty.
So…………Randy - running for any offices?
Wow! This grand pipe-dream might actually become a reality.
Let’s hope that the good-ol’-boys don’t just talk it into the ground & waste years on analyzing the pros & cons into oblivion.
Since this is an election year, we voters have a better chance of being heard.
Maybe groups of us could start with sending a glut of letters to our representatives letting them know how important this idea is to us. Imagine what a year round economy could do for our local businesses.
The idea made it into the Delaware Business Ledger. Congrats.
